The Italian Wine Tour at Gervasi Vineyard Concludes with Wines Produced from Italian Grape Varietals Grown in North America and Made in the Winery at Gervasi

In addition to obtaining Italian wines produced in Italy, Gervasi Vineyard has several wines they produce and bottle at their state-of-the-art winemaking facility which is located inside The Crush House. GV’s team of experts go to great lengths to produce only the finest quality Italian wines.

In addition to the winery, Gervasi grows some of its own grapes for many of its wines. There are two vineyards on the property including the North Vineyard and the South Vineyard.

Gervasi Entrance Gates

Entering the property from the ornate entrance arch, you’ll see the North Vineyard on your left, situated on the west shore of Lake Gervasi. It was planted in 2009 and 2010. The vineyard makes a stunning backdrop for weddings and other events held in the Tuscan Pavilion between the lake and the North Vineyard.

The North Vineyard is home to Marquette (a grandchild of Pinot Noir), which bears a dark purple grape producing a ruby-colored wine, and the intriguing Frontenac Gris, with lovely bronze-hued clusters that produce a lively, aromatic Rose’ wine.

The South Vineyard is located just past the apple orchard and as you approach The Still House. The South Vineyard arises from a wooded creek bed on a sunny east-facing slope. Planted in 2010 and 2016, Aromella (apricot-hued aromatic white) grapes grow alongside a 2016 planting of Marquette grapes. The number of vines has been increased to increase the production volume our well-received line of Family Reserve wines.

Following are a few Italian wines produced at Gervasi’s winery. The grapes for the following wines have been specially selected by the Director of Wine Making and Distillery Operations at Gervasi, Andrew Codispoti.

Three Italian Wines produced at Gervasi Vineyard

LUCELLO PINOT GRIGIO – OFF DRY WHITE WINE

“Look into a glass of Lucello and imagine the illumination of an early morning sky over the Mediterranean,” said Codispoti.

This off-dry white wine is zesty with bright, crisp Italian flavor. Lucello offers folds of pear, citrus, tropical notes that remind you of mango and apple with a sustained and pleasant finish.

The grapes for this wine are grown in Northeast Ohio.   Pinot Grigio grapes grown in this area of Ohio combine the desired brisk acidity along with some terroir driven fruit characteristics

Codispoti said, “This wine has nice citrus notes with green apple and hints of tropical notes. This wine is a crisp white wine and is very popular at Gervasi. It’s softer on the palette but not sweet.”

Try pairing Lucello with salads, white fruit such as white peach or apples, vegetable dishes and chicken or fish entrees.

Enjoy with the Chicken Linguine featuring Spinach, Capers, Roasted Tomatoes, Garlic Cream Sauce and Lemon Zest at The Crush House.

MALVASIA BIANCA- ITALIAN WHITE WINE

This dry white wine has a hint of sweetness with a nice fruity character of pear, white peach and honey suckle.

“Malvasia is a refreshing wine and is fruiter than a Pinot Grigio,” Codispoti said. “Enticing floral highlights and soothing tones of ripe pears, sweet apples, pineapple, and a shimmer of honey bring harmony and balance to this wonderful white wine.”

The grapes used in GV’s Malvasia Bianca wine are grown in California by a grower especially selected by Codispoti. GV’s expert winemaker visits each of the growers GV uses to get to know them and to see how they care for their grapes.

Pairs nicely with the Grilled Chicken Pizza featuring Roasted Red Peppers, Artichokes, Mushrooms, Mozzarella, Crushed Red Pepper, and a Garlic Cream Sauce on The Piazza patio.

TRUSCANO – RED WINE

“Sangiovese grapes are used to make this wine. We purchase our grapes for this wine from the Sierra Foothills in California. Our grapes come from a grower’s reserve vineyard. They have a riper profile with red and black cherry flavors and a hint of raspberry,” Codispoti said.

Gervasi ages this wine in a specially defined blend of barrels to help develop its characteristics. While it is a very Italian wine, it plays well to domestic wine drinkers. It’s a wonderful wine in its own unique way.

Pairs well with roasted chicken, red sauces, meatballs, brick-fired pizzas, lighter meats and it can be beautifully at home with steaks.  Truscano is Gervasi’s tribute to the outstanding wines of Italy.

Enjoy with a hearty burger! The Crush House Burger is an 8 oz. Hand Pressed Burger served with Ciabatta Bun, Lettuce, Tomato and Onion. Choice of Cheeses include: Gorgonzola, Provolone, American, Swiss and White Cheddar. Add Caramelized Onions, Sautéed Mushrooms, Roasted Red Peppers, Bacon and Avocado. The GV Burger is also served outside on The Piazza patio.
