This holiday season, Gervasi Vineyard (GV) is adding excitement and joy to celebrations with family, friends, and co-workers. Each week leading up to Christmas, we’ll share a new idea for experiencing Gervasi with your loved ones.
Join wine steward Brad Preston for all three special events, one in November and two in December. Each event is a wonderful hour of tasting many of GV’s delectable hors d’oeuvres, specialty dishes, scrumptious desserts and heavenly chocolates along with a selection of Gervasi’s Italian wines.
“My goal for the pairings is to show guests how each of the small bites of food or desserts are paired with the wines or cocktails so they can do the same when choosing wines or cocktails for their events,” Preston said. “Learning the characteristics of wines, such as aroma and nuances, will help each participant pair wines and food. It is also a way to show how the wines and cocktails elevate the taste of the food and how the food elevates the wines and cocktails. It’s a full-circle moment.”
Preston is an expertly trained steward and is WSET Certified (Wine & Spirit Education Trust). He has been leading wine pairing events at Gervasi Vineyard for over eight years. Preston said he rotates the wines for each event so that guests may enjoy multiple pairing events.
Preston works with GV Destination’s executive chef Jerry Risner to put the menu together for each pairing. He shared that the ingredients of the tastings and the way the food is prepared helps him determine the wines or cocktails to feature.
“The pairings are something fun to do, especially over the holiday season when the grounds at Gervasi Vineyard are dressed in festive yuletide style. It’s fun, delicious and educational all at the same time. It’s an experience that everyone enjoys and a wonderful thing to do with family, friends or co-workers during the holiday months,” Preston said.
The pairing events often attract over 70 people per event. Preston said they are able to host that many people because they are now held in The Villa Grande Ballroom where weddings and other large events are usually held. The venue is large and can have tables placed six feet apart with each table seating up to 10 people.
